Carol Gruhl (nee Birkbeck), 58, died January 1, 2003, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Wadsworth, she lived in Monroe, Michigan; St. Thomas, Virgin Islands; and most recently in Lakewood, Colorado, where she was assistant manager for U.S. Bank. She touched all who knew her with her limitless energy, zest for life, and love for her family. She was a former member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Norton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Weldon C. and Marian (Miller) Birkbeck and son Edvin James Martinson.

She is survived by husband, William; daughter, Tina (Kerry) Hunter; son Erik (Michelle) Martinson; granddaughter, Shelby Hunter; all of Lakewood, Colorado; brothers, James W. (Carol) Birkbeck of Wadsworth, Robert (Sylvia) Birkbeck of Simi Valley, California, and John (Denise) Birkbeck of Massillon; step-mother, Mae Birkbeck of Wadsworth. She is also survived by her beloved aunt, Dorothea (Miller) Seiberling of Akron and many nieces and nephews.

She will be missed by many, including dear friends Jan and Fay of Monroe, Michigan, and Sandy (Sega) Holland of Wadsworth.

Cremation has taken place. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society.
